Placentia, CA — May 1, 2020 — With the incredible effort of PIASC, President & CEO, Lou Caron, RJ Cervantes at Frenandez cervantes Government Affiars and their national collegues, Michael Makin and Lisbeth Lyons, the Printing Industry was today listed as an "Essential Business" under CA's list of Essential Critial Infrastructure Workers. Detailed information regarding this new amendment to the Governor's Orders can be found at:

Printing can be found at the following locations on the PDF:
- Page 2: Healthcare/Public Health, item 8 – Workers for health manufacturing (including life science companies, and companies that have shifted production to medical supplies), materials and parts suppliers, technicians, logistics and warehouse operators, printers, packagers, and distributors of medical equipment (including those who test and repair), personal protective equipment (PPE), isolation barriers, medical gases, pharmaceuticals (including materials used in radioactive drugs, and cannabis products), dietary supplements, blood and blood products, vaccines, testing materials, laboratory supplies, cleaning, sanitizing, disinfecting or sterilization supplies, personal hygiene products, and tissue and paper towel products.
- Page 11: Transportation and Logistics, item 11 – Manufacturers and distributors (to include service centers and related operations) of lighting and communication systems, specialized signage and structural systems, emergency response equipment and support materials, printers, printed materials, packaging materials, pallets, crates, containers, and other supplies needed to support manufacturing, packaging staging and distribution operations
As before, there are several other areas that describe the work that most printers perform and that further qualifies them as essential businesses. As such, you should take a couple of minutes and scan the list.
"This was an incredible win by the industry under the PIASC's leadership," says Christian Stauss, CEO of Print & Finishing Solutions. With this new amendment, it clarfies any potential issues that printers could face addressing the inconsistency the between executive and public health officer orders at the State, county and city levels.
Caron however cautions, "Do not assume that just because the Governor’s order explicitly lists “printing” that this is the applicable rule for your location. The reality is that the most restrictive order/regulation is the applicable authority. For example, in the City of Los Angeles, the City’s order is more restrictive than the Governor’s Executive Order and, consequently, the City’s order is the authority and this order does not explicitly list “printing.” Therefore, we recommend that you do take the time to understand the order for the area you are in."
Overall, however, "This will help to protect all of us from any future potential regulatory measures, higher workers' compensation costs and other unforeseen consequences that could have ended up becoming burdensome." states Caron.
